Indians declined OF Grady Sizemore’s $9 million option for 2012. [1]

News: Sizemore (knee) became a free agent Monday after the Indians declined their $9 million option on his contract for 2012, the team’s official Twitter feed reports. [4]

Sizemore, 29, batted just.224/.285/.442 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI in 71 games this season. [1]

In his first year back from microfracture surgery, Sizemore struggled to a.224/.285/.422 slash line and.302 wOBA in only 71 games. [2]

On June 27, 2002, Sizemore was part of a six-player trade between the Indians and the Expos. [5]

The 29-year-old batted just.224/.285/.422 with 10 homers, 32 RBI and zero stolen bases over 268 at-bats this season and just underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Monday, so it’s not an easy call. [1]

Indians make Sizemore a free agent: The Indians declined their 2012 option on OF Grady Sizemore on Monday, according to MLB.com. [6]

Montreal dealt Sizemore, along with Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips and Lee Stevens to Cleveland in exchange for Bartolo Col?n and Tim Drew. [5]

The Indians held strategy meetings earlier this week and may have concluded that the $9 million option on Sizemore was not an affordable risk, given the progression and versatility of Michael Brantley and Shin-Soo Choo. [1]
