deep impact

Friday, September 30th, 2011

PASADENA — The Fourth of July began with a bang here early Monday morning as NASA’s Deep Impact mission collided with history. [1]

The primary task (DIXI or Deep Impact eXtended Investigation) is to fly past comet Hartley 2 in 2010. [2]

This animation shows a conceptualized view of Deep Impact’s encounter with comet Tempel 1. [3]

“There is a comet up in the sky wondering, what in the heck just happened,” said JPL director Charles Elachi during a post-collision press conference. [1]

Along the way (Jan-Aug 2008) the spacecraft observed planets around other stars (EPOCh). [...] Although the original Deep Impact mission is done, the spacecraft is in working order. [2]

The $333 million mission to crash an 820-pound (371-kilogram) Impactor probe into the avocado-shaped Comet Tempel 1 and record the event via a Flyby mothership was a complete success. [1]

It was designed to study the composition of the comet interior of 9P/Tempel, by releasing an impactor into the comet. [4]

The Deep Impact was reported as healthy after managing to track Impactor’s collision with Tempel 1 down to about 50 meters, then turn its imaging lenses away from the comet to guard them from debris as the spacecraft passed underneath the nucleus. [1]

NASA gave it two new tasks under the mission name of EPOXI. [2]

van jones

Friday, September 30th, 2011

White House environmental adviser Van Jones resigned late Saturday after a simmering controversy over his past statements and activism erupted into calls for his ouster from Republican leaders on Friday. [1]

For these issues, Van Jones was heavily criticized by conservatives. [2]

Van Jones is a self-proclaimed radical communist activist who was appointed by Barack Obama to serve as the Obama administration ’s “Green Czar”. [3]

As soon as ABC News discovers more video of this radical Communist who is advising our President on green jobs, I will bring it to you. [4]

As WND previously reported, Van Jones, special adviser for green jobs, enterprise and innovation to the White House Council on Environmental Quality, is an admitted black nationalist and radical communist. [5]

In addition, as an adviser to the Council on Environmental Quality, rather than to Obama directly, his past was not reviewed to the same degree as the more senior “assistants to the president” and other top advisers inside the West Wing. [1]

Jones and Frappier ran police monitoring organization CopWatch, together, then in 1996 the pair established the Oakland California based Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. [6]

The president does not endorse Jones’s past statements and actions, “but he thanks him for his service,” Gibbs said. [1]

Anthony K. “Van” Jones (born September 20, 1968) is an American environmental advocate, civil rights activist, and attorney. [...] In March 2009 Jones was appointed by President Barack Obama to the newly created position of Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where he worked with various “agencies and departments to advance the administration’s climate and energy initiatives, with a special focus on improving vulnerable communities.” [2]

In Reclaiming Revolution, STORM editors discussed their self critical evaluation of accusations other groups made that STORM considered itself the revolutionary vanguard of Marxism. [...] In the early 2000s, Jones and STORM were co-sponsors of the anti-Iraq War demonstrations organized by International ANSWER, a left wing anti-Semitic front group for the Marxist-Leninist Workers World Party (WWP). [3]

He does not appear to have distanced himself from his past communist activities and is now part of the Obama administration’s push to turn Sept. 11 into a National Day of Service focused on the promotion of the radical environmentalist agenda. [5]

In 2005, Jones and the Ella Baker Center produced the “Social Equity Track” for the United Nations ‘ World Environment Day celebration, held that year in San Francisco. [2]

Anthony K. (Van) Jones, a Bay Area Marxist radical, was appointed on March 10, 2009 as Green Jobs adviser to the Obama administration-or officially Special Adviser for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). [6]
