ascension

Monday, May 30th, 2011

Ascension is the eighth Zombie map that appears in the Call of Duty series, part of the First Strike Map Pack, which was released on February 1, 2011 for Call of Duty Black Ops on the Xbox 360, March 3 on the PS3, and PC on March 25, 2011 for $14.99 but a release date has not been announced for the Wii. [1]

Tradition has consecrated this site as the Mount of Ascension and Christian piety has memorialized the event by erecting over the site a basilica. [2]

The act or process of ascending; ascent. [3]

The canonical gospel account of Jesus ascending bodily into the clouds differs from the Aramaic Matthew which finishes with Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations. [4]

Since after the Ascension the disciples are described as returning to Jerusalem from the mount that is called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, within a Sabbath day’s journey. [...] Although the place of the Ascension is not distinctly stated, it would appear from the Acts that it was Mount Olivet. [2]

Jesus ascended to his Father and his heavenly throne, and now sits at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. [...] The Feast of the Ascension, celebrated 40 days after Easter, is one of the chief feasts of the Christian year. [4]

In Christianity, the bodily rising of Jesus into heaven on the 40th day after his Resurrection. [3]

The map features Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki, and Edward Richtofen as playable characters and includes new Special Grenades, the Gersch Device and Matryoshka Dolls (replacing the Monkey Bombs), as well as new perks such as PhD Flopper and Stamin-Up (replacing Double Tap Root Beer). [1]

The original Gospels of Luke and Acts were both written by the same author and were thus very unlikely to contain such discrepancies in their original form. [4]

In disappearing from their view “He was raised up and a cloud received Him out of their sight” (Acts 1:9), and entering into glory He dwells with the Father in the honour and power denoted by the scripture phrase. [2]

The Russian Orthodox Church also maintains a Convent of the Ascension on the top of the Mount of Olives. [4]

A new enemy, called Space monkeys, also appear in this map, replacing the Hellhounds or Pentagon Thief (in the case of “Five”). [1]

An angel told the watching disciples that Jesus’ second coming would take place in the same manner as his ascension, that is, He would descend in bodily form. [4]

sarah palin

Sarah Palin waves to delegates during her vice-presidential nomination acceptance speech at the 2008 Republican National Convention. [1]

YoungTrigg later updated his Wikipedia user page, stating that he was not Sarah Palin or a member of her family. [2]

In this April 23, 2008 file photo, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, left, and her husband, Todd Palin, hold their baby boy Trig in Anchorage, Alaska. [3]

Republican Sarah Palin was John McCain ’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election and is the former governor of Alaska.http://www.sarahpac.com/about [4]

I wonder how much of Sarah Palin’s political appeal arises from her physical appeal. [5]

Sarah Louise Palin (born February 11, 1964) is the former Governor of Alaska, having resigned before the completion of a single 4-year term, and was the Republican vice presidential nominee for the 2008 United States presidential election. [2]

On July 3, 2009, Palin held a press conference to announce that she would resign as governor within weeks and not run for re-election. [4]

Sarah Louise Heath Palin (pronounced pay’-lynn) (born February 11, 1964) is a conservative Republican who served as the 11th Governor of Alaska from 2006 through 2009. [3]

Reports have leaked of a startling new development in connection with the 2012 Republican presidential primary. [5]

Sarah Palin, while serving as Governor of Alaska, was nominated as the first female candidate of the Republican Party for Vice President of the United States. [1]

On August 8, 2010, Palin got into a minor exchange with an Alaska teacher named Kathleen Gustafson. [4]

She was Governor of Alaska from 2006 to 2009, gaining national attention in 2008, when John McCain chose her as the Republican candidate for Vice President. [5]

Palin is the second woman to run for vice president on a major-party ticket and the first Republican woman to do so. [2]

Ruth Mandel of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University pointed out, ‘The first image here [of Palin] was: This is a woman who is a wife and a mother, and let us tell you about her family…. [1]

This added fuel to charges that she was not qualified to run for Vice President, when in fact she was clearly qualified by her service as governor. [3]

vitamin d

Monday, May 30th, 2011

People who get too little vitamin D may develop soft, thin, and brittle bones, a condition known as rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. [1]

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in very few foods, added to others, and available as a dietary supplement. [2]

In addition to helping the body absorb calcium, vitamin D also helps the body keep the right amount of calcium and phosphorus in the blood. [3]

But today, vitamin D is being hailed for being able to do much more than that. [4]

Calcifediol: 25-HCC, 25-hydroxycholecalciferol, 25-hydroxychol?calciferol, 25-hydroxyvitamin D3, 25-hydroxyvitamine D3, 25-OHCC, 25-OHD3, Calcif?diol. [5]

The sun also contributes significantly to the daily production of vitamin D, and as little as 10 minutes of exposure is thought to be enough to prevent deficiencies. [6]

In children, vitamin D deficiency causes rickets, which results in skeletal deformities. [6]

Scientists have known for some time about vitamin D’s role in helping the body absorb calcium, in maintaining bone density, and in preventing osteoporosis. [4]

Vitamin D can only be synthesized via a photochemical process so early vertebrates that ventured onto land either had to ingest foods that contained vitamin D or had to be exposed to sunlight to photosynthesize vitamin D in their skin to satisfy their body’s vitamin D requirement. [7]

gypsies

Monday, May 30th, 2011

Since the Romantic period, Gypsies have had a glamorous image for writers and artists outside their communities, evoking ideas of freedom, exotic passion, mystery, and a life close to nature. [1]

Some scholars deduce possibly three main migrations over several centuries, taking into particular consideration the word “Rom” (used by most Gypsies to refer to their ethnicity). [2]

A more realistic depiction of contemporary Romani in the Balkans, featuring Romani lay actors speaking in their native dialects, although still playing with established clich?s of a Romani penchant for both magic and crime, was presented by Emir Kusturica in his Time of the Gypsies (1988) and Black Cat, White Cat (1998). [3]

Gypsies of the former USSR can be divided into more than ten groups distinguished by language or dialect, culture, and way of life. [4]

It is extremely difficult to locate the sorts of sources about Gypsies in the Holocaust of the type widely available about Jewish victims of the Nazi terror. [5]

In addition to the approximately 6 million Jews who were the targets of a complete annihilation policy in the Nazi Holocaust were an estimated 5.5 million “enemies of the German State” who were murdered under equally inhumane circumstances — criminals and asocials, the insane, homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, political criminals such as communists and socialists, and Gypsies. [6]

The Gypsy People sometimes called “Gypsiesny Folk” in the United Kingdom, often referred to as Gypsies or Gipsies, are a diverse ethnic group who live primarily in Southern and Eastern Europe, Western Asia, Latin America, the southern part of the United States and the Middle East. [7]

There is only sketchy evidence to support any detailed theories about Gypsy origins. [2]

The Old English (up to 1150)D gave priority to gipsy, but this spelling is far less usual now, and the form recommended here is Gypsy (capitalized) when the reference is to the people, and gypsy (with small initial letter) in the generalized meaning ‘a free spirit’. [1]

The deported Gypsies were sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where a special Gypsy camp was erected. [5]

The Romani (also Romany, Romanies, Romanis, Roma or Roms; exonym: Gypsy; Romani: Romane or Rromane, depending on the dialect) are an ethnic group living mostly in Europe, who trace their origins to the Indian Subcontinent. [...] Many Romani are native speakers of the language current in their country of residence, or of mixed languages combining the two. [3]

In 1322 a Franciscan monk named Simon Simeonis described people in likeness to the “atsingani” living in Crete and in 1350 Ludolphus of Sudheim mentioned a similar people with a unique language who he called Mandapolos, a word which some theorize was possibly derived from the Greek word mantes (meaning prophet or fortune teller). [7]

Within the century, however, they were allowed to live there and in Moscow, and many, particularly those who belonged to the famous tsyganskie khory (Gypsy choirs), thrived. [4]

“For Nazi Germany the Gypsies became a racist dilemma. [5]
