Live chat: Oakland Raiders and NFL draft, Friday, 3 p.m. [3]

What is here and now is that Stefen Wisniewski will be learning the pro game under the careful tutelage of his uncle as the Raiders selected the former Nittany Lion with the 48 pick in the 2011 draft. [...] Tonight’s NFL Draft could be one of the most dramatic non-sporting events for a professional sports league or it could be as boring as Bill Belichick hosting open mic night at the Ha Ha Hole. [2]

The Raiders drafted offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski, the nephew of former Raiders great Steve Wisniewski, with their second-round pick Friday in the NFL draft. [3]

The Raiders decided to keep it in the family when it came time to make their first selection in the NFL draft, taking Stefen Wisniewski, the son of Steve. [4]

The Raiders began play in the American Football League (AFL) in 1960 and joined the NFL in the AFL’NFL merger of 1970. [5]

Since folks first starting mocking the draft way back when the NFL season ended most had Wisniewski on the Raider Radar. [2]

In 1963, Al Davis was brought to the team as head coach and general manager, and from 1963 until 2002 the team had only seven losing seasons. [5]

beatification of john paul ii

Friday, April 29th, 2011

An announcement on the beatification of Pope John Paul II could come from the Vatican as early as tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 14, sources said today. [1]

Pope Benedict XVI today approved a miracle attributed to Pope John Paul II, clearing the way for the late pontiff’s beatification, the final step before sainthood. [2]

Pope Benedict XVI approved the decree for the beatification of his predecessor during a Jan. 14 audience with the head of the Vatican department for saints’ causes, Cardinal Angelo Amato. [3]

The shop sells tapestries of Pope John Paul II, who will be beatified May 1. [4]

Normally five years must pass after a person’s death before the beatification process can begin. [5]

The cause for beatification will now advance to the bishops heading the congregation. [6]

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — With more than a million people expected to descend on Rome for Pope John Paul II’s beatification May 1, the event is being described as yet another pilgrim “invasion” of the Eternal City. [4]

.- Pope John Paul II could be beatified in 2011, Vatican expert Andrea Tornielli is reporting. [6]

If JPII is a saint I’d much rather be a sinner. [1]

While today’s announcement is expected to be greeted with joy around the Catholic world, critics have raised questions both about the substantive case for declaring the late pope a saint, including his record on the sexual abuse crisis, and the speed with which it’s occurred. [2]

A ‘decree of heroic virtue’ for John Paul II was approved by Benedict XVI in December 2009, certifying that the late pope lived a holy life and authorizing him to be referred to as the ‘Venerable’ John Paul II. [1]

Pope John Paul II reigned as pope of the Roman Catholic Church and sovereign of Vatican City for almost 27 years. [5]

Today, a veteran Italian journalist reported that the cardinals and other bishops who serve as members of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints have approved a miracle attributed to John Paul II, involving the healing of a French nun suffering from an aggressive form of Parkinson’s disease. [1]

It would seem that the Vatican resolved those doubts to its satisfaction, however, as the miracle has been approved by both the Vatican’s medical and theological consulters, as well as the cardinals and bishops who make up the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and the pope himself. [2]

His successor, Pope Benedict XVI, referred to him as “the great Pope John Paul II ” in his first address from the loggia of St Peter’s Church, and he referred to Pope John Paul II as “the Great” in his published written homily for the Mass of Repose. [5]

lara logan assault

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Lara Logan was in Egypt and reporting about the whole event of President Husni Mubarak there. [...] She was reporting in Cairo on the turbulent events where she was made a victim of sexual attack and stabbing. [1]

Lara Logan appeared fearless and intrepid when she reported from war zones — exactly what you want in a foreign correspondent. [2]

She will talk more about the attack on Sunday’s 60 Minutes, then stop giving interviews about it. [3]

According to Reporters Without Borders, five reporters have already been killed in 2011, and 152 are imprisoned. [...] A 2007 article in the Columbia Journalism Review exploring the threats to female foreign correspondents singles out Egypt: “The Committee to Protect Journalists, for example, cites rape threats against female reporters in Egypt who were seen as government critics.” [2]

- Journalist Kim Barker was covering a jubilant demonstration in Pakistan in 2007, with thousands cheering for the country’s chief justice, when the crowd turned on her, groping her relentlessly. [3]

We’ll learn to better value female reporters: “Rape is a risk that comes with the job,” and female journalists “face greater threats to their safety than male reporters do in similar situations,” says Ann Friedman at Feministing. [4]

- Harsh new details of Lara Logan’s attack in Cairo: The CBS reporter was stripped and battered with fists and makeshift flagpoles, reports the Times of London, via the Daily Mail. [3]

Egyptian women and soldiers rescued her from a hostile mob that had separated her from her film crew, and she is now in an American hospital recovering. [2]

On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. [5]

Physical attack of women is very common in Cairo but in the start of protest on event like that occurs which makes women little confident but in the ending days the people who are in favour of Husni Mubarak attacks the protesters and makes women the victim of sexual attack. [...] Lara Logan is a CBS News Correspondent and she recovering in a U.S. hospital. [1]

But stupidity also flew on the Internet regarding the attack on Logan. [2]

CNN calls its nightly program “Anderson Cooper 360.” [6]
