aretha franklin died

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Aretha Franklin is called “The Queen of Soul” and “Lady Soul,” nicknames that are a tribute to her regal style and impassioned gospel-tinged vocals. [1]

And I am most appreciative." Since she burst onto the public consciousness in the late 1960s with a batch of milestone recordings, Franklin has served as a standard against which all subsequent soul divas have been measured. [2]

Aretha Franklin was born on March 25, 1942, in South Memphis, Tennessee to the Rev. [3]

Nineteen sixty-seven was a tough year in many respects ‘ riots, protests, an unwinnable war ‘ but I can’t think of it without thinking of the glory of Aretha Franklin, a woman in her mid-20s, introverted and somewhat shy, who sang soul and rock’n’ roll with the power and beauty of a heavenly choir. [4]

Sorry, we couldn’t find a summary of “aretha franklin died”. [5]

The combination of Franklin's gospel roots and some devastating life experiences have invested her voice with a rare—and often wrenching—authenticity. [2]

Aretha’s parents had a troubled relationship and they separated when Aretha was six. [3]

Franklin was raised in Detroit, the daughter of famed minister C. L. Franklin and gospel singer Barbara Franklin, who left the family when Aretha was small and died shortly thereafter. [2]

Her albums were also hot sellers; one in particular, 1972’s Amazing Grace, eventually sold over two million US copies, becoming “the best-selling gospel album of all time”. [3]

Although known for her soul recordings and referred to as the The Queen of Soul, Franklin is adept at jazz, blues, R&B and gospel music. [6]

Because it wouldn’t be the holidays without an epic celebrity death, Twitter is trying to destroy soul legend Aretha Franklin. [5]

C. L. Franklin, a Detroit gospel singer and clergyman, Aretha began performing on the Midwest gospel music circuit as a youngster and made her first recording when she was 14 years old. [1]

Erma Franklin, a singer who had a hit with the song ‘Piece of My Heart’ (later recorded by Janis Joplin), died in 2002. [4]

When asked by Patricia Smith of the Boston Globe how she felt about being called the "Queen of Soul," Aretha Franklin's reply was characterized by grace but no false modesty. [2]

She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. [7]

Florida International capped a second-half comeback with a 34-yard field goal as time expired to give the Panthers a dramatic 34-32 victory over Toledo at the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit Sunday night. [1]

The Toledo Rockets improved to 5-3 on the season and 4-0 in Mid-American Conference action with a come from behind 31-24 win over the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday night at The Glass Bowl. [2]

“Being from Ohio and having coached in the Mid-American Conference, I have always had a great respect for the tradition and accomplishments of the Toledo football program. [3]

In the Toledo football coaches’ headquarters on the second floor of Larimer Athletic Complex at the north end zone of the Glass Bowl, one detail is far more prominent than any of the blown-up pictures of past Rockets football lore that adorn the walls. [4]

Tim Beckman is the 25th head football coach at the University of Toledo. [3]

The Toledo Rockets football team is a college football program in Division I FBS, representing the University of Toledo. [5]

The 2009 Toledo Rockets football team represented The University of Toledo in the college football season of 2009. [6]

12/24/2010 Desmond Marrow was thrilled to be at Ford Field on Thursday afternoon, practicing for the Toledo Rockets instead of standing on the sidelines. [7]

According to Toledo Rockets lore, the team began when a group of students purchased uniforms from a sporting goods store, then arranged a game against the University of Detroit in order to settle the debt. [...] Its current head coach is Tim Beckman. [5]

‘My dad being an NFL coach and a college coach, me being a youngster watching and going to every practice at the University of Iowa, and then [having] big linemen coming over and my mom cooking spaghetti for them ‘ I was always around it. [...] Combine that energy with a career where you’re almost always on the move in some fashion, and it’s no surprise that Beckman interviewed for the Toledo job in The Westin at Detroit Metro Airport during a recruiting trip he was on following the Oklahoma-Oklahoma State game two years ago. [4]

We have been waiting a long time for this time to come, since our win in the regular-season fianle against Central Michigan in the Glass Bowl. [1]

From there he went on to work as the secondary coach and recruiting coordinator at Western Carolina from 1990-1995. [3]

Due to the extreme nature of the ongoing blizzard, including high winds and major snow drifts, the MTA is urging its customers to stay home this morning if at all possible. [1]

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (New York) (MTA) provides local and express bus, subway, and regional rail service in Greater New York, and operates multiple toll bridges and tunnels in New York City. [2]

There are major suspensions across our transportation network that may continue through the morning rush hour, including a full suspension of service on the Long Island Rail Road, suspension of Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven Line, and suspension of several of the lettered subway lines. [1]

The MCTA changed its name to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in 1968 when it took over operations of the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) and Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA), now MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) and MTA Bridges and Tunnels (B&T) respectively. [...] Chartered by the New York State Legislature in 1965 as the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation Authority (MCTA) it initially was responsible only for regulating and subsidizing commuter railroads, including the Long Island Rail Road and what is now the Metro-North Railroad. [2]

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority of the State of New York (MTA) is a public benefit corporation responsible for public transportation in the U.S. state of New York, serving 12 counties in southeastern New York, along with two counties in southwestern Connecticut under contract to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, carrying over 11 million passengers on an average weekday systemwide, and over 800,000 vehicles on its seven toll bridges and two tunnels per weekday. [...] Its agencies serve 14.6 million people spread over 5,000 square miles (13,000 km?) from New York City through southeastern New York State (including Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley), and Connecticut. [...] Members are nominated by the Governor of New York, with four recommended by New York City’s mayor, and one each by the county executives of Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties. [...] The MTA has the responsibility for developing and implementing a unified mass transportation policy for The New York metropolitan area, including all five boroughs of New York City, the suburban counties of Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester, all of which together are the “Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District (MCTD)”. [...] Walder’s recent threats to terminate Long Island Bus, under the claim of a lack of funding, have led to various lawsuits being filed against the MTA and their payroll tax by the suburban counties, as well as a call for his resignation by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. [...] The popular names were part of an overall corporate identification effort in 1994 to eliminate the confusion over the affiliations of the various “authorities” that were part of the MTA. [...] The executives of the northern counties of Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, and Putnam also nominate a member each, but these members cast one collective vote. [2]
