I was the only one who hadn’t,” says Heather Morris, who plays the delightfully ditzy cheerleader. [1]

It’s no secret that Heather Morris is one of the breakout stars of ‘Glee.’ [2]

Britney Spears (l.) dressed in her ‘Toxic’ costume and ‘Glee’ star Heather Morris in the tribute episode. [3]

Rather, we would finally have a chance to see fan favorite Brittany get to utter more than a few non sequiturs throughout the episode, and Heather Morris did not disappoint. [4]

Blast from the past… Britney Spears (top) tweeted to fans a photo of Heather Morris performing her Toxic song on Glee, which airs on Channel Ten tomorrow night. [5]

The “Britney/Brittany” episode of “Glee” has arrived. [6]

The lone Glee clubber who hasn’t belted one out will finally be heard in the show’s tribute to Britney Spears. [1]

She came back to inform the glee club she was more talented than all of them and would be performing every solo from that point on. [4]

Heather Elizabeth Morris (born February 1, 1987) is an American actress, dancer, and singer best known for her role as the cheerleader Brittany Pierce in the musical comedy series Glee. [7]

In the episode (premiering Tuesday at 8/7c on Fox), Brittany will envision herself as the sexpot pop singer during the slithering come-on “I’m A Slave for You” and the dance-floor duet “Me Against the Music,” which she’ll imagine alongside Santana (Naya Rivera). [...] It’s all rather serendipitous, says the 23-year-old dancer-turned-actress; Spears is someone Morris “genuinely wanted to be” growing up. [1]

On a show filled to the brim with talented young stars, Morris remains a bright light thanks to her sharp comedic timing and killer dance moves. [...] The episode ‘Britney/Brittany’ is Morris’ time to shine and we’re so ready for it! [2]

According to show creator Ryan Murphy, the “Britney/Brittney” episode will revolve around the show’s glee club members going under anesthesia during a trip to the dentist, played by guest star John Stamos. [5]

Britney Spears offered her fans a blast from the past on Twitter Monday to celebrate “Glee’s” tribute episode to her. [3]

no ordinary family

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

“No Ordinary Family” tries to be a couple different things in its premiere episode: a show about a family that’s come undone and a superhero origin story. [1]

Just as ‘Undercovers’ had its characters resume their espionage careers in order to inject a spark back into their marriage, ‘No Ordinary Family’ gives the proceedings an almost therapeutic air, and the ABC show also presumes that we’ll care about whether these characters reconnect. [2]

Cast of “No Ordinary Family” (from left) Romany Malco as George, Autumn Reeser as Katie, Kay Panabaker as Daphne, Jimmy Bennett as JJ, Julie Benz as Stephanie, Michael Chiklis as Jim, and Stephen Collins as Dr. Dayton King. [3]

After 16 years of marriage, Jim (Michael Chiklis) feels disconnected from his workaholic wife, Stephanie (Julie Benz) in “No Ordinary Family.” [4]

The “No Ordinary” family members are more broad, dull archetypes than characters; it’s difficult to muster much concern for or interest in any of them. [5]

On ABC’s pleasant new dramedy “No Ordinary Family,” the four main characters have supernatural powers that are a whole lot happier. [6]

No Ordinary Family’s cast members include Romany Malco, left, Autumn Reeser, Kay Panabaker, Jimmy Bennett, Julie Benz, Michael Chiklis and Stephen Collins. [7]

“No Ordinary Family” premieres Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. [8]

No Ordinary Family is an American television series on ABC. [9]

The show stars Michael Chiklis as Jim Powell, a schlub of a dad who dreams up schemes to bring his family closer, despite their lack of interest. [3]

Michael Chiklis, late of “The Shield” (and the Thing in “Fantastic Four”), stars as Jim Powell, a man in a funk. [4]

ET Tuesday (Sept. 28), has a seriously fun vibe as the family — and particularly parents Jim (Michael Chiklis) and Stephanie Powell (Julie Benz) — figures out their new powers. [1]

‘No Ordinary Family’ is in need of a little danger — the kind of dangerous drive that Chiklis brought to his role on FX’s ‘The Shield’ — but Jim is something of a wet blanket. [2]

Jim (Michael Chiklis, of “The Shield” and “Fantastic Four”) is a frustrated artist, working part time at the police station, drawing sketches of suspects. [8]

Dad Jim (Michael Chiklis), a police sketch artist, now has Hulk-like strength, helpful for a guy in the crime-solving business. [6]

ureter reflux

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

In vesicoureteral reflux, however, urine that has already collected in the bladder is able to flow backwards from the bladder, up the ureter, and back into the collecting system of the kidney. [1]

In summary, vesicoureteral reflux is a relatively common disease which can be benign if treated appropriately. [2]

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is the abnormal flow of urine from the bladder back into the ureters. [3]

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is an abnormal movement of urine from the bladder into ureters or kidneys. [4]

Vesicoureteral reflux occurs when urine flows from the bladder back into the ureters, and eventually into the kidneys. [5]

About one-third of children with urinary tract infections are found to have vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). [...] The connection between the ureter and bladder on each side is a one-way “flap valve” that prevents urine from backing up into the kidney. [6]

Reflux in the urinary tract means that urine is able to get back up into the kidney after it has drained down into the bladder. [7]

Reflux of urine is one of the more common reasons that children are referred to a pediatric urologist. [2]

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) can cause swelling in the ureter and kidney, known as hydroureter and hydronephrosis. [3]

Thus, when the bladder fills and later when it squeezes down to empty, back-up (that is, reflux of urine) is prevented because the valve operates in the same way as when you pinch off a soda straw. [8]

Also, it may be suspected because there is enlargement of the kidney drainage system on an ultrasound test done either before or after birth. [7]

Vesicoureteral reflux can be caused by a structural defect, such as a ureter that did not grow to normal size during fetal development. [5]

The urine drains down tubes called ureters from the kidneys to the bladder, which normally stores urine and empties intermittently by muscular contraction. [8]

A catheter (tube) is passed into the bladder and the bladder is filled with a substance that allows us to see the bladder. [7]

Growing up, Janelle Mon?e (born Janelle Robinson) felt constrained by the limited resources offered to her in her greater Kansas City, KS, home. [1]

The label gave an official and physical release to the first suite in August 2008, which was retitled Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Special Edition) and included two new tracks. [2]

After the release of the first part of the series, Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase) in mid-2007, these plans were altered following her signing with Sean “Diddy” Combs ’s label, Bad Boy Records, later in the year. [3]

A re-release of The Chase, featuring bonus content, appeared in August 2008, while the second and third suites of Metropolis were issued together as components of 2010’s The ArchAndroid. [...] She soon joined a band and began touring the local college circuit, where she eventually got in touch with her future partners in Wondaland Arts Society (a collective/label that looked to promote experimental arts) as well as OutKast ’s Big Boi. [1]

Janelle Mon?e Robinson (b.1985) is a U.S. pop, R&B, and soul singer-songwriter, dancer, producer, and performer signed to her own label Wondaland Arts Society and Diddy ’s Bad Boy Records. [2]

It was originally conceived as a concept album in four parts, or “suites”, which were to be released through her website and mp3 download sites. [3]

Born on 1st December 1985 in Kansas City, Kansas) she moved to New York to study theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. [2]

The album — which melded cabaret, hip-hop, rock, and soul — was well received, which helped bring the singer into the radar of Sean “Diddy” Combs. [1]

The EP was generally well-received by critics, garnering Mon?e a 2009 Grammy nomination in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance for her single “Many Moons”, festival appearances and opening slots for the indie pop band Of Montreal. [...] After moving to Atlanta, GA, where she met OutKast ’s Big Boi, Mon?e founded the Wondaland Arts Society with like-minded young artists and made appearances on Idlewild, where she is featured on the songs “Call the Law” and “In Your Dreams”. [...] Mon?e noted that she plans to shoot a video for each song on The ArchAndroid and create both a movie and graphic novel based on the album. [...] Mon?e received the Vanguard Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers at the Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in 2010. [...] She is currently signed to the Wondaland Arts Society and Bad Boy /Atlantic Records. [...] Janelle Mon?e (born December 1, 1985 in Kansas City, Kansas as Janelle Mon?e Robinson) is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and performer. [3]

trufocals

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

The solution: eyeglasses, called TruFocals, that the wearer can manually adjust to give clear, undistorted vision whether reading a book, working on a computer or looking into the distance. [1]

The glasses, called TruFocals, allow the wearer to adjust the lenses depending on what they’re trying to see and how far away it is. [2]

Popular Science Magazine has named TruFocals, the market’s first adjustable focus eye glasses, a winner of its coveted 2009 Best of What’s New Award in the Health category. [3]

The result is TruFocals, the world’s first –and only-eyeglasses offering on-demand, user-adjustable, infinitely variable focus. [...] Bifocals, reading glasses, swapping multiple glasses, and progressive lenses all had major flaws. [4]

Most people with this condition, called presbyopia, eventually give in and get reading glasses, bifocals or glasses with progressive lenses. [5]

Chosen from thousands of entrants, TruFocals revolutionary lens unit system provides a new alternative for conventional multifocal wearers who want a clear field of view at any distance. [3]

The company that makes them, Zoom Focus Eyewear in Southern California, says their product means an end to the need for multiple pairs of glasses and the limitation of having only one field of vision in focus at a time. [2]

Each TruFocal lens is actually a set of two lenses: an outer lens, and an inner lens made of a flat glass plate attached to a flexible membrane that contains a clear, silicone-based liquid. [6]

When Dr. Stephen Kurtin reached the age when his eyes could no longer focus on nearby objects, he found that none of the then-available “answers” satisfied him. [4]

Plus, see the list of the winners and runners-up for The Wall Street Journal’s 2010 Technology Innovation Awards, get an update on past winners and read opinions from innovators on what will win in coming years. [5]

Best of What’s New awards are presented to 100 new products and technologies in 11 categories: Automotive, Aviation & Space, Computing, Engineering, Security, Gadgets, Green Technology, Home Entertainment, Home Technology, Personal Health and Recreation. [3]

“As you age, the lens atrophies and you can no longer focus intermediate and near,” said Kurtin, an independent inventor with a Ph.D. in applied physics. [2]

This movement mimics the way the natural lenses perform in the youthful human eye. [3]

The glasses won this year’s Silver Innovation Award, with one judge, Dr. Richard S. Lang, saying the technology is revolutionary in its treatment of a condition “that has been handled the same way for many years,” according to the Wall Street Journal. [2]
