no ordinary family

“No Ordinary Family” tries to be a couple different things in its premiere episode: a show about a family that’s come undone and a superhero origin story. [1]

Just as ‘Undercovers’ had its characters resume their espionage careers in order to inject a spark back into their marriage, ‘No Ordinary Family’ gives the proceedings an almost therapeutic air, and the ABC show also presumes that we’ll care about whether these characters reconnect. [2]

Cast of “No Ordinary Family” (from left) Romany Malco as George, Autumn Reeser as Katie, Kay Panabaker as Daphne, Jimmy Bennett as JJ, Julie Benz as Stephanie, Michael Chiklis as Jim, and Stephen Collins as Dr. Dayton King. [3]

After 16 years of marriage, Jim (Michael Chiklis) feels disconnected from his workaholic wife, Stephanie (Julie Benz) in “No Ordinary Family.” [4]

The “No Ordinary” family members are more broad, dull archetypes than characters; it’s difficult to muster much concern for or interest in any of them. [5]

On ABC’s pleasant new dramedy “No Ordinary Family,” the four main characters have supernatural powers that are a whole lot happier. [6]

“No Ordinary Family” premieres Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. [8]

No Ordinary Family is an American television series on ABC. [9]

The show stars Michael Chiklis as Jim Powell, a schlub of a dad who dreams up schemes to bring his family closer, despite their lack of interest. [3]

Michael Chiklis, late of “The Shield” (and the Thing in “Fantastic Four”), stars as Jim Powell, a man in a funk. [4]

ET Tuesday (Sept. 28), has a seriously fun vibe as the family — and particularly parents Jim (Michael Chiklis) and Stephanie Powell (Julie Benz) — figures out their new powers. [1]

‘No Ordinary Family’ is in need of a little danger — the kind of dangerous drive that Chiklis brought to his role on FX’s ‘The Shield’ — but Jim is something of a wet blanket. [2]

Jim (Michael Chiklis, of “The Shield” and “Fantastic Four”) is a frustrated artist, working part time at the police station, drawing sketches of suspects. [8]

Dad Jim (Michael Chiklis), a police sketch artist, now has Hulk-like strength, helpful for a guy in the crime-solving business. [6]
