dick clark

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Dick Clark is the ageless co-host of the annual Times Square TV special, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. [1]

As host to the first network television series devoted to rock and roll and the longest running musical show in television history, American Bandstand, Dick Clark made rock music palatable to the mainstream American public and help promote the careers of many rock and roll artists of the 50s, both the talents and no talents. [2]

Affectionately known as “America’s oldest teenager,” Dick Clark was significant in transforming the record business into an international industry. [3]

He is best known for hosting long-running television shows such as American Bandstand, five versions of the game show Pyramid, and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. [4]

He worked as a radio and television announcer before beginning his long engagement as host of the TV show American Bandstand (1956 - 89), a showcase for popular music. [1]

When "New American Bandstand 1965" (1952) was picked up by ABC in 1957, he changed its name to “American Bandstand”, ended the show’s all-white policy and began introducing black artists. [5]

Clark returned to the broadcast lineup in 2005 as a kind of host emeritus, sharing screen time with host Ryan Seacrest… Clark has been married three times, to Barbara Mallery (1952-61), Loretta Martin (1962-71), and Kari Wigton (1977-present). [6]

As host of American Bandstand, Clark provided many acts with the opportunity to reach a national audience via television, spreading the gospel of rock and roll to teenagers across the country. [3]

Extra credit: Clark had a stroke in December of 2004 and missed the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcast for the first time since 1972; Regis Philbin filled in for him as host. [6]

He is best known for hosting long-running television shows such as American Bandstand, the Pyramid game show, and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. [7]

Born Richard W. Clark in 1929, he entered the music business as a sales manager for an upstate New York radio station at age seventeen. [3]

His career in show business began in 1945 when he started working in the mailroom of WRUN, a radio station owned by his uncle and managed by his father in Utica, New York. [4]

how old is prince

Monday, June 28th, 2010

And the artist formerly known as “the artist formerly known as Prince ” turns 50 in a few months. [1]

Prince (born Prince Rogers Nelson; June 7, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. [2]

Husney and Prince then left Minneapolis and moved to Sausalito, California where Prince’s first album, For You, was recorded at the Record Plant recording studio. [3]

I remember where I was when I saw Purple Rain and who I was with…and even the purple pants I was wearing–Really! [2]

Following his (purple) rainy performance at the Super Bowl halftime show (+679%), the energy he ignited on stage worked its way into Search. [1]

In addition, Prince has been a “talent promoter” for the careers of Sheila E, Carmen Electra, The Time and Vanity 6, and has written songs for these artists and others (including Chaka Khan, The Bangles, and Sin?ad O’Connor), many of which have become hits, making him one of the most successful artists in recent music history. [...] Prince’s 1984 album Purple Rain sold more than thirteen million copies in the U.S. and spent twenty-four consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. [3]

Visit Amazon’s Shad Store for all the music, discussions, and more. [4]

Interest in “3121″ lyrics, videos, and reviews have all gone crazy in the purple rain while wearing raspberry berets, as doves cry softly in the distance. [...] We expect lookups for Madonna, Jacko, and Prince to climb the buzz charts in the coming weeks. [1]

Prince also recorded, but never released, a song written by Willie - “If You See Me” a.k.a. [3]

Or create a Squidoo account the traditional way! [2]

His new album, “3121,” continues to score big on the Billboard charts, and searches on the rock icon are surging as if by royal decree. [1]

Living in Canada i was lucky because i heard about Shad back in 2006 when i heard the song Rock To It from his debut When This Is Over. [4]

According to Robert Larsen in his book, History of Me and I, Prince is “one of the most talented and commercially successful pop musicians of the last thirty years”, producing ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career. [2]
