sergio martinez

The fight with Williams had been rescheduled for early December, but Pavlik wasn’t ready, so Williams went ahead and fought a replacement opponent — junior middleweight titleholder Sergio Martinez of Argentina. [1]

WBC super welterweight champion Sergio Martinez once sought soccer stardom, but has found it in the boxing ring instead. [2]

Sergio Martinez has just one loss in more than 10 years. [3]

Sergio Martinez: I do a lot of work with youth in the program that I do. [4]

Now he’s headed back to Boardwalk Hall to face junior middleweight king Sergio Martinez on Saturday night, and much has changed for the unassuming fighter from Youngstown, Ohio. [5]

On Saturday, Pavlik (36-1, 32 knockouts) will try to rewrite the narrative surrounding him when he faces the tricky Sergio Martinez (44-2-2, 24 knockouts) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City for Pavlik’s WBC and WBO middleweight titles. [6]

Sergio Martinez had been expected to rely on speed to thwart world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik’s punching power in their title bout Saturday but the Argentine said he was also prepared to trade blows. [7]

The infection severely weakened him and eventually resulted in two surgeries on his hand, two postponements of a much-anticipated fight with Paul Williams and a steady stream of criticism. [1]

The junior middleweight champion dropped a close and somewhat questionable decision in a clash of southpaws with feared puncher, and former three-time champion, Paul Williams (38-1, 27 KOs) in December, but Martinez performed so well and made such an entertaining bout that he was given another chance in the spotlight. [8]

Martinez is the boxer - a tough, gritty, hard-as-nails boxer - who also happens to look like a backup for The Chippendales. [3]

ATLANTIC CITY — Argentinian-born, WBC junior middleweight (154 pounds) champion, Sergio Martinez, is amiable, handsome and charitable, in addition to being among the more skillful boxers in the sport, if not, the more talented fighter in his division. [4]

Kelly Pavlik (left) returns to Atlantic City for the first time since a vicious beating at the hands of Bernard Hopkins in October 2008. [5]

“You will see a great fight and definitely I will take my championship back to Argentina,” said Martinez, during a final news conference for the event. [8]

OK, good news, you wont have to wait all that much longer for the fight between WBO jr. [9]

“The sort of fight that we’re going to dictate is going to involve the type of rhythm that we decided to fight. [4]

Photograph of Farley Granger and Robert Walker (”Strangers on a Train “). [1]

Eventually the studio issued a press release announcing Farley Granger, a senior at North Hollywood High School, had been cast in The North Star after he responded to an ad in the local paper. [2]

While still a teenager Farley Granger appeared in a Los Angeles little theater production, where he was spotted by a scout. [3]

Discovered by Samuel Goldwyn while still a high school student, Farley Granger has bee-stung lips and soulful looks and was immediately plugged into “The North Star” (1943), a propaganda film of World War II, in which he played a freedom-loving Russian youth. [4]

Born Farley Earle Granger II in San Jose, California, Granger was acting in theater in Los Angeles, California when he was signed to a film contract by Samuel Goldwyn. [1]

Born Farley Earle Granger II in San Jose, California, Granger was acting in theater in Los Angeles, California when he was signed to a film contract by Samuel Goldwyn. [5]

Typecast as a troubled pretty boy or a vulnerable, sensitive, soulful young hero, Granger appeared in one more film and then served in World War II. [3]

Farley had a good accent so he was given the role of a Russian boy in the film The North Star. [6]

The opening night audience included talent agent Phil Gersh and Samuel Goldwyn casting director Bob McIntyre, and the following morning Gersh contacted Granger’s parents and asked them to bring him to his office that afternoon to discuss the role of Damian, a teenaged Russian boy in the film The North Star. [2]

In his book, Original Story By: A Memoir of Broadway and Hollywood (ISBN 1-55783-467-9), playwright and screenwriter Laurents states that he had a long-term homosexual relationship with Granger. [5]

In a career spanning several decades, he perhaps is known best for his two collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock, Rope in 1948 and Strangers on a Train in 1951. [2]

Goldwyn originally cast him in “The Best Years of Our Lives” (1946) to play a character with cerebral palsy, but before filming began Goldwyn had second thoughts about the character, and felt that someone suffering war injuries would be more topical. [1]

After making a series of minor Hollywood films, he moved to Italy in the mid ’50s and made one film there, then returned to Hollywood for two more movies before giving up his screen career in favor of work on stage and TV. [...] The studio publicity department was concerned audiences would confuse Farley with British actor Stewart Granger, so they suggested he change his name and offered him a list from which to choose. [...] Sam Goldwyn signed him to a film contract and he debuted onscreen as a Russian youth in The North Star (1943). [3]
