787 first flight schedule
NEW YORK (AP) — Boeing says its 787 aircraft will be ready for its first test flight by the end of this year and its initial delivery by the end of next year, sending its shares higher as it gives some clarity to a program that has been delayed five times already. [1]
Boeing issued the following statement Jan. 16 about its 787 Dreamliner jet. [2]
First flight of the all-new airplane will move into the fourth quarter of this year rather than the end of the second quarter, and first delivery is now planned for the third quarter of 2009 instead of first quarter. [3]
This includes our experience on the factory floor completing production work on the airplane that was originally intended to be done by our suppliers,” Carson said. [4]
EVERETT, Wash., April 09, 2008 — Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced a revised plan for first flight and initial deliveries of the 787 Dreamliner that includes additional schedule margin to reduce risk of further delays on the program. [...] “We deeply regret the disruption and disappointment these changes will cause for our customers, and we will work closely with each of them to minimize the impact,” said Carson. [...] The new delivery schedule is based on a more conservative production plan developed with the 787 partner team. [...] “Over the past few months, we have taken strong actions to confront and overcome start-up issues on the program, and we have made solid progress,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Scott Carson. [3]
Boeing’s 2008 financial guidance will be updated with the impact of these changes when the company holds its fourth-quarter 2007 earnings conference call on January 30. [2]
Deliveries are now expected to begin in early 2009, rather than late 2008. [...] “The fundamental design and technologies of the 787 remain sound,” said Scott Carson, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. [...] Words such as “expects,” “intends,” “plans,” “projects,” “believes,” “estimates,” and similar expressions are used to identify these forward-looking statements. [4]
The outlook for the company’s defense business and in-production commercial airplane programs remains strong. [3]
