club dread

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Delayed reaction arguments aside, Club Dread does — when all is said and done — mirror the stalk-and-slash efforts of yesteryear down to the most minute details, and the supernaturally-charged killer of Club Dread is on-target for the genre even if the film itself does come a few decades too late. [1]

Club Dread (also known as Broken Lizard’s Club Dread) is a 2004 comedy /horror film, written by the comedy group Broken Lizard, who also created Super Troopers. [2]

View company contact information for Club Dread on IMDbPro. [3]

Following up their breakthrough film, 2001’s Super Troopers, the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, comprised of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske, took aim at the horror genre and delivered Club Dread. [...] As with Super Troopers and the first Broken Lizard film Puddle Cruiser, Chandrasekhar directs. [...] Occupying a strange, near superfluous celluloid limbo somewhere between Club Paradise (1986) and Friday the 13th (1980), Broken Lizard’s Club Dread does offer some moments of inspired insanity despite the filmmakers’ failure to even out the script and pacing problems that plagued the group’s breakthrough comedy Super Troopers. [...] Starring the five members of the troupe along with Bill Paxton, the film is set at an anything-goes tropical resort for swingers. [1]

At first viewing of this comedy by Jay Chandrasekhar I dismissed it as a completely cheesy and off-the-wall spoof movie we have all seen many times already, and I was right! [3]

From the guys who brought you SUPER TROOPERS…Broken Lizard is back, surrounded by limber, wanton women on a booze-soaked island resort owned by Coconut Pete (Bill Paxton), a rock star has-been…. [4]

Club Dread has received mixed reviews, scoring 45% on review aggregator site Metacritic based on 28 critics reviews, and 31% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 95 reviews. [2]

~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide [1]

Dead bodies begin to turn up, and the staff try to solve the murder mystery without any of the guests learning of the murders. [...] In the movie, Coconut Pete (Bill Paxton) is a has-been rock star who runs a non-stop party on his private island. [2]

When a serial killer interrupts the fun at the swanky Coconut Pete’s Coconut Beach Resort — a hedonistic island paradise for swingers — it’s up to the club’s staff to stop the violence… or at least hide it! [3]

The staff also have to try to avoid becoming the next victim, as the killer can only be one of them. [2]

The philosophy at McCoy and McCoy is different from that of other law firms. [1]

Burnt Orange Beat spoke with McCoy this afternoon about his decision. [...] The Texas Longhorns have a serious need for quarterbacks in the 2010 class and on Saturday, Texas picked up a big commitment from Graham’s Case McCoy. [2]

McCoy possesses many of the same traits his older brother Colt has– confidence, moxie, productivity and a competitive attitude and swagger. [3]

Our personal injury law firm has a well-earned reputation for providing exceptional, aggressive, high quality representation, and dedication to our clients. [1]

While some may wonder if McCoy is ‘good enough’ to receive an offer from the Longhorns, his recruitment proves not only is he good enough, but is very likely one of top prospects in the state of Texas with nearly ten scholarship offers to date including the National Champion Florida Gators as Urban Meyer has been personally recruiting the talented junior. [2]

faylene grant

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

To the defense, Faylene Grant’s death was either a suicide or a strange accident. [1]

That’s what she was,” said Jody Stratton, Faylene Grant’s sister. [2]

Faylene Grant was clearly a troubled woman. [3]

On the morning of Sept. 27, 2001, Doug Grant says he woke to find his wife Faylene, drowning in their bathtub. [2]

Douglas Grant was originally charged with first-degree murder of his wife, Faylene. [4]

Faylene tells her ex-husband God communicated with her in a Mormon temple. [...] All along, the prosecution’s case had been built on premeditation, accusing Doug of implanting visions of death in his devoutly religious wife, then drowning her in their bathtub so that he could be with his ex-girlfriend. [1]

But for the jury, in the end it all came down to recklessness. [5]

Though Doug Grant was originally indicted on first degree murder, in the last weeks of trial the prosecution argued for and the judge agreed that the jury could consider two lesser offenses — second degree murder and manslaughter. [...] “If it was first degree, we definitely would have hung,” the jury foreperson, who did not wish to be identified, told ABC News. [1]

And undetermined it has remained, until just last week when a Maricopa County jury decided whether Doug Grant was responsible for his wife’s death. [...] If so, please click here to contact the editors of ABC News. [2]

Doug told ABC News that his ex-wife said to him, “I was told in the San Diego [Mormon] Temple, from God, to remarry you.” [1]

What the jury seemed to have a tougher time explaining were the strange circumstances surrounding the couples second marriage. [...] Ultimately, it came down to manslaughter — for not making the 911 call and possibly by him not calling 911. [5]
