usc vs oregon

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

USC will face the Ducks in a nationally televised Fox Sports telecast (Prime Ticket in Southern California) on Saturday afternoon at 12:30pm. [1]

Oregon (6-1, 4-0) sits alone atop the conference standings with no league losses, threatening the hold the Trojans (6-1, 3-1) have had on the Pac-10 title for the past seven years. [2]

With their NCAA Tournament hopes still alive but down to a flicker, the USC Trojans (16-12, 7-9) return home to the Galen Center hoping to get back on track at the expense of the Oregon Ducks (8-20, 2-14) and the Oregon State Beavers (13-14, 7-9). [3]

Lucas Clark: There is no two ways about it, this weekend’s matchup between the No. 10 Oregon Ducks and the No. 5 USC Trojans will be the game of the year in the Pac-10 Conference. [4]

The Ducks have won six straight games since an embarrassing 19-8 loss at Boise State in the opener, a game that got uglier when running back LeGarrette Blount punched a Broncos defensive end as he was leaving the field. [2]

Stanford freshman center/forward Brook Lopez had easily the best game of his young career, setting a record for blocks in one game and racking up the first triple-double at Stanford in 22 years. [...] The Trojans will battle OSU on Thursday night at 7:30pm. [1]

Two years ago, USC visited Autzen and left with a 24-17 loss. [2]

USC: 8th scoring offense (67.8 PPG), 4th scoring defense (63.7 PPG), 9th free throw % (66.2 %). [3]

– Dwight Lewis tied a career-high with 26 points, true-freshman DeMar DeRozan had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Southern California defeated Oregon 83-62 in the Pac-10 Conference opener for both schools Friday. [5]

The Trojans will have to sweep the Oregon schools and likely need to advance deep into the Pacific 10 Conference Tournament in order to even be considered by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee for the field of 64. [3]

USC: 6th scoring offense (71.0 PPG); 3rd scoring defense (61.3 PPG); 1st FG % defense (36.6%). [1]

Schaftenaar tied a career-high with 18 points for the Beavers (6-6, 1-1), who erased a 15-point second-half deficit. [6]

Both teams feature a talented and versatile offense, which is backed up by two outstanding defenses. [...] Quarterback Matt Barkley seems to be hitting his stride and the coaching staff is more willing to let him stretch the field to receivers Damian Williams and Ronald Johnson. [4]

halloween h20

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Note (08/29/07): The following review, written in 1998, is more or less still representative of my opinion of “Halloween: H20.” [1]

In the nostalgic slasher flick Halloween: H20, scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis has another night to remember. [2]

It’s nice to see that Steve Miner, Kevin Williamson, Jamie Lee Curtis and company have taken the high road in Halloween H20. [3]

View company contact information for Halloween H20: 20 Years Later on IMDbPro. [4]

Halloween H20: 20 Years Later also known as Halloween: H20 is the 7th film in the Halloween film series. [5]

This is the seventh movie in this horror series and a 20th anniversary follow-up to John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978), arguably the most influential horror film of the ’70s, a film that set the standard of horror for the next two decades and catapulted the career of Jamie Lee Curtis. [6]

The movie playfully toys with you quite a lot, especially in a creepy scene set at a desolate rest stop, and involving a young child and her mother…not to mention the man with the mask. [1]

But the man spiritually behind H20’s tone is coexecutive producer Kevin Williamson, creator of Scream and Scream 2 (and the scarily hyper-verbal teen-sex TV drama, Dawson’s Creek). [2]

After waking up from a particularly ghastly nightmare (Michael Myers trapping her in a closet) we find out the terror doesn’t end at dawn. [3]

This is the first film about the Michael Myers character to not feature Donald Pleasence. [5]

Going into “Halloween: H20,” I was all set to see a great horror film in the vein of the original, and with the talent involved, I was almost positive it wouldn’t be anything less than superb. [1]

Halloween was, is, and will likely remain the greatest horror movie of all time. [4]

John Carpenter’s 1978 classic “Halloween ” was a masterpiece, the best horror film I have ever seen. [1]

The legacy of the horror movie sequel was nicely summed up in Scream by Jaime Kennedy’s film geek character: more bodies, more elaborate deaths, more gore. [3]

While in her house Marion discovers her file on Laurie Strode missing and finds someone is still in her house and she rushes over to her neighbours house. [5]

ghost hunters live 2009

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

The Ghost Hunters are going live for their 2009 Halloween special! [1]

Ghost Hunters Academy professor, Steve Gonsalves. [2]

Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango, TAPS investigators and cast members of Syfy’s hit series Ghost Hunters, lead a team of college students learning the ropes to become ghost hunters in Ghost Hunters Academy. [3]

People just like you make Ghost Hunters News on Topix better every day. [4]

Syfy’s hit series Ghost Hunters will perform a live Halloween 2009 investigation from Essex County Hospital located in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. [5]

I’ve got a bit more information about the Ghost Hunters Live 2009 Halloween event over on the Ghost Hunters blog, so hop on over to get the scoop. [2]

Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, stars of Syfy’s “Ghost Hunters” and co-founders of The Atlantic Paranormal Society have transcended the paranormal entertainment niche and become lasting pop-culture mainstays. [4]

Special guest hunter Meat Loaf will rejoin the team (good call), and from a preview that I saw a couple of days ago, it will include the announcement of the winners of the Pair-anormal contest as well. [...] After some controversy over last year’s episode which included some (supposedly) suspicious footage of Grant Wilson getting his jacket collar tugged several times, rumor had it that the Ghost Hunters team were begging off doing another live episode this year. [...] Now it’s your turn to lend TAPS a hand by picking the Ghost Hunters episodes that will appear in Syfy’s Viewer’s Choice Marathon this Halloween. [1]

The show is slated to air on November 11, 2009, but Ghost Hunters Academy gets a jumpstart by appearing in the live 2009 Halloween broadcast of Ghost Hunters. [3]

The history behind Essex County Hospital is wrought with pain and suffering and is reported to have claimed the lives of 10,000 souls over a century of operation. [5]

Well, by now you all know the difficulties I’ve had getting a straight answer out of the Ghost Hunters TAPS team about exactly what their Halloween 2009 Live special will entail. [...] Last night’s episode of Ghost Hunters was spectacular and incredibly disappointing all at the same time. [4]

When Grant and Jason explored the newly discovered casemate, Grant was startled by the appearance of a face through an open window. [3]

waverly hills

First-Hand Accounts of Waverly Hills appear in the book SO, THERE I WAS… by Troy Taylor & Len Adams! [1]

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium began with a two-story frame building, with a hipped roof and half timbering. [2]

The Waverly Hills Sanitarium in Louisville Kentucky has it all– cold spots, disembodied voices, and ghosts roaming the halls. [3]

Waverly Hills Sanatorium ghost hunt, Louisville, Kentucky June 10, 2006. [4]

For many years, there have been a large number of ghost hunters who have traveled the world over, again and again, searching persistently and painstakingly to be able to find a place such as the Waverly Hills Sanitorium. [5]

Health care providers believed that rest and plenty of fresh air and sunshine was the answer, and thus the patients spent the majority of their time in the solarium-like porch ways. [3]

Over the years, there has been a tremendous number of ghost hunting stories that have unfolded, to tell of some of the many agonizing treatments and pain that thousands of sick patients endured. [5]

Even in the winter, patients would be placed outdoors with heating blankets (such tuberculosis treatments were the reason why heating blankets were invented.). [3]

Major Hays liked the peaceful sounding name so he named his property “Waverley Hill” and the Board of Tuberculosis Hospital kept the name when they bought the land and opened the sanatorium. [2]

To try to contain the disease, a two-story wooden sanatorium was opened which consisted of an administrative/main building and two open air pavilions, each housing 20 patients, for the treatment of “early cases”. [6]

It was considered the most advanced tuberculosis sanatorium in the country but even then, most of the patients succumbed to the disease. [1]

Waverly Hills Sanatorium, located in southwestern Louisville-Jefferson County, Kentucky, opened in 1910 as a two-story hospital to accommodate 40 to 50 tuberculosis patients. [6]

Back before the sanatorium was ever thought of, the land was purchased by Major Thomas H. Hays in 1883. [2]

Here the ghost of an old woman has often been seen. [3]

The unbelievably high number of deaths that occurred in Kentucky was from victims who suffered from the very contagious disease known as tuberculosis. [5]
