NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co on Monday agreed to buy Marvel Entertainment Inc for $4 billion in the biggest media deal of the year, banking on Marvel’s roster of superheroes to broaden its lineup of movie franchises that appeal to boys. [4]

The Walt Disney Co. says it is acquiring Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion US in cash and stock, bringing characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man into the Disney family. [5]

The deal won’t have benefits right away, and Disney stock sank on the news. [1]

The deal is expected to close by the end of the year and marks Disney’s biggest acquisition since it purchased Pixar Animation Studios Inc., the maker of “Up” and “Cars,” for $7.4 billion in stock in 2006. [6]

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. saw its shares shoot up Monday as news of a $4 billion acquisition of Marvel Entertainment Inc. by Walt Disney Co. ignited speculation that the animated filmmaker may also be a buyout candidate. [7]

On a conference call with investors, Iger said the deal will allow Disney to sell Marvel’s vast array of characters and properties across different media platforms and in many more markets. [3]

Iger said the deal would bring benefits like the ones Disney got from buying “Toy Story” creator Pixar Animation Studios Inc. for $7.4 billion in stock in 2006. [8]

The deal pairs a comic book publisher that just recently began to produce its own movies with one of the largest international media companies in the world. [3]

“‘Sparks will fly’ is the expression that comes to mind,” Iger told analysts. [2]

Although it began producing its own movies, starting with “Iron Man” last year, Marvel has several deals with other movie studios that Disney said it will honor and re-examine upon expiration. [9]

Another storied comic book maker, DC Comics, has been under the wings of a major studio since 1969, when Warner Bros. [8]

eloise movie

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Well, the folks over at Disney have put their Emmy award winning TV movie Eloise at Christmastime, based on the book by Hollywood lyricist and ensemble singer Kay Thompson, out on DVD shelves in time for the Holiday season. [1]

Eloise is the name of the protagonist in a series of children’s books written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight. [2]

Adapted from the first of Kay Thompson’s best-selling series of children’s books, Eloise at the Plaza made its debut on ABC’s Wonderful World of Disney in the spring of 2003. [3]

I reached into my secret stash of Christmas gifts and pulled out the Eloise movie (recently purchased). [4]

The itsy bitsy Entertainment Company (TibECo) announced that it has lined up its key production team for the first Eloise movie. [5]

Eloise is a six-year-old girl who lives in the “room on the tippy-top floor” of the Plaza Hotel in New York with her Nanny, her pug dog Weenie, and her turtle Skipperdee. [2]

Kay Thompson’s literary classic comes to life in this TV movie starring a free-spirited 6-year-old living in New York’s Plaza Hotel. [4]

The Plaza’s most rambunctious resident and her illustrator are coming home to The Plaza! [6]

The itsy bitsy Entertainment Company (TibECo) announced today its expansion into family films and has acquired the motion picture and allied rights to Kay Thompson and Hillary Knight’s classic series of Eloise books. [5]

This film adaptation could very easily have added Eloise to the long list of annoying child characters that the movies have given us. [3]

This is her website containing everything about her, information on the books, her author Kay Thompson, her illustrator Hilary Knight and much more! [6]

In 2006, an animated television series based on the characters of the books, premiered on Starz! [2]

She halted publication of the books five years after the first volume was published because she felt that spin-off items were of poor quality and that the character’s charm was being diluted by commercialism. [...] As fans of the series know, Eloise is a spunky, precocious 6-year-old who lives with her pets and her nanny in Manhattan’s pricey Plaza Hotel. [5]

We learn all about Eloise, Nanny, her “rawther” British nanny, her dog Weenie who looks like a cat, and her turtle Skipperdee who eats raisins and wears sneakers. [6]
