A satellite image shows Hurricane Jimena off the coast of Mexico early Sunday evening. [3]

Hurricane Jimena is currently the second strongest storm of the 2009 Pacific hurricane season. [1]

Should these forecasts hold, it will be only the second Cat 3 landfall in 52 years of record keeping and possibly the most powerful storm ever to make landfall in Baja. [2]

The storm is expected to continue in a north-northwest motion and approach the southwestern tip of Baja California sometime early Tuesday. [3]

Hurricane Jimena continues to head towards southern Baja California as a category 4. [4]

Landfall is predicted along the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur near Magdalena Bay early Wednesday morning as a Category 3 Hurricane. [2]

Hurricane force winds extend out 30 miles and tropical storm force winds out to 80 miles. [4]

As of Sunday afternoon, Jimena was about 270 miles (440 km) south of Cabo Correintes, Mexico, or about 480 miles (770 km) south-southeast of the southern tip of Baja California, according to the center. [3]

The current forecast calls for yet more strengthening today, with the storm peaking later this evening. [2]

Historical data indicate that the entire 5-day path of the center of the tropical cyclone will remain within the cone about 60-70% of the time. [5]

CNN Radio’s John Lorinc and Brendan Gage contributed to this report. [3]

Currently, hurricane force winds extend out 25 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds as much as 70 miles. [...] Tropical Depression 13E formed on the evening of 8/28 from a large area of disturbed weather having been stimulated by a tropical wave. [2]
