BOSTON (AP) — Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, the last surviving brother in a political dynasty and one of the most influential senators in history, died Tuesday night at his home in Hyannis Port after a year-long struggle with brain cancer. [1]

The decline in health leading to his death brought a spirited show of support from both sides of the political aisle: Just after Kennedy was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital two years ago, then-President Bush phoned the senator’s wife, Victoria Kennedy, to convey the message, “Take care of my friend.” [3]
