Now the Hero of Flight 1549 has a name: Chesley B ‘Sully’ Sullenberger III. [1]

Sullenberger and her two daughters spoke outside their California home Friday morning a day after pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III guided a US Airways jetliner to a safe landing in New York. [2]

He served as a US Air Force fighter pilot from 1973 to 1980. [3]

NEW YORK (Jan. 15) - Civil engineer Robert Bea wasn’t surprised when he learned the name of the cool-headed pilot who guided his hobbled jetliner over the city and landed it in the Hudson River. [4]

Survivors, eyewitnesses, rescuers and experts alike all hailed the expertise, bravery and cool of Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger III, a hero whose calm saved 158 people, including a nine-month-old baby, from an icy and fiery death. [3]

Since US Airways Flight 1549 ended in an emergency landing in the Hudson river survivors and media have been celebrating the pilot as a hero who saved 154 lives and averted a potential tragedy. [1]

Keller said he is particularly proud of Sullenberger because of how he laid the plane down with what was likely a heavy load. [6]

The pilot “did a masterful job of landing the plane in the river and then making sure that everybody got out,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. [2]

“I believe now we’ve had a miracle on the Hudson,” New York Gov. David Paterson said, praising all those involved in the effort. [5]
