Well, the real reality (as redundant as that sounds) is that these real-life superheroes seem to be understanding reality better than those who say they’re attuned to the increasing dark realities of America. [4]

Even though cops argue superheroes belong in the movies and not on the streets, “Life” and his odd-looking crew hand out food to the homeless and assure the mentally ill they still matter in a town famous for its arrogance. [3]

These people wear masks or otherwise disguise themselves in order to perform “heroic deeds” like community services or fighting crime when they come across it. [...] Sometimes, the term is applied to firefighters, police officers, and other good samaritans who rise to the occasion when lives are on the line, or when charitable works need doing. [5]

Today I want to talk about the men and women who dress up in colorful (or not so colorful) outfits and go out and patrol the streets without the sanction of city, state or federal governments. [1]

For attention or to highlight a cause of significance to them, some people name and/or garb themselves like established comic book characters. [5]

Spiderman has his web and Superman has X-ray vision, but New York ’s real life superheroes just have some sandwiches - and a whole lotta heart. [...] Life leaves a sandwich for an unsuspecting person. [3]
