The Ellen Show was a television sitcom starring Ellen DeGeneres that aired during the 2001 -2002 season on CBS. [1]

Whenever Ellen DeGeneres’ friends put together a show or party, she was asked to do a comedy routine. [2]

The Ellen DeGeneres Show, often shortened to Ellen, also called Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show, is an Emmy Award -winning syndicated television talk show hosted by comedienne Ellen DeGeneres and distributed by Warner Bros. [3]

Before getting her own show, DeGeneres began her television career on the short-lived TV sitcom Open House (1989-1990) and Laurie Hill (1992). [...] DeGeneres rose to national attention when her material was turned into the subject matter for the successful 1994-1998 sitcom, Ellen (called These Friends of Mine during its first season). [2]

During her Twelve Days of Giveaways promotion, she gives about $1,000 worth of prizes to each member of the studio audience (and a handful of home viewers as well) for 12 days in a row leading up to Christmas. [3]

DeGeneres starred in a series of films for a show named Ellen’s Energy Adventure, which is part of the Universe of Energy attraction and pavillion at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT Center. [2]

After coming out of the closet as a lesbian on her first sitcom, DeGeneres’ character on The Ellen Show, Ellen Richmond, was also a lesbian, although the show did not focus as heavily on the character’s sexuality as did the final season of her first sitcom. [1]

She did an act and was soon asked to perform as a stand-up comedian at small clubs and coffeehouses, and eventually became the emcee at Clyde’s Comedy Club (the only comedy place in New Orleans at the time). [2]

The Ellen Show consisted of 18 episodes, it was canceled mid-way through its first season. [1]

To the left of the main area is a large wall with unique lighted segments that slides open for DeGeneres’ entrance at the beginning of each show. [...] On November 19, 2007, the show celebrated its 700th episode, even though the actual 700th show was over a month earlier. [...] DeGeneres’ representatives asserted that she did not violate the WGA’s agreement, arguing that she is competing with other first-run syndicated shows like Dr. Phil and Regis and Kelly during the competitive November sweeps period, and that DeGeneres must fulfill her duties as host and producers, lest her show lose its time slot or be held in breach of contract. [...] As the season progressed, producers replaced the screens with seasonal photographs contributed by viewers and DeGeneres. [3]

Her sitcom began to primarily focus on her character’s relationship with another woman; and even the lesbian activist Chastity Bono found the show to be “too gay”. [2]
